Press releases
Cairo, 05.11.2008 - At the 33rd public ICANN meeting which is being held in Cairo until November 7, discussions focus on the Draft Applicant Guidebook for new generic Top-Level Domains (TLDs). Increasingly, TLDs for cities (cityTLDs) are being viewed as particularly promising. In Cairo, the two initiatives for .hamburg and .bcn (Barcelona) publicly presented their plans for namespaces for cities for the first time.
Paris, June 26, 2008 - The French capital Paris yesterday formally announced its participation in the upcoming application for a Top-Level-Domain .PARIS at the Internet organisation ICANN. Paris is the first city to officially voice its interest in an own Top-Level-Domain (TLD). The task ahead of dotPARIS now is to build up and grow its initiative. In the German capital Berlin, dotBERLIN GmbH & Co. KG has been actively forming an initiative for the TLD .BERLIN since 2005 and has some 80 partners and sponsors by now.
Cologne, 20.06.2007 - Yesterday, at the ceremonial awards for the eco Internet Awards, dotBERLIN GmbH & Co. KG won the special award for the Germany Internet industry. dotBERLIN aims to create a new domain ending .berlin (a top-level domain), which will result in a local identity for Berliners in the Internet, providing an alternative to addresses such as .de and .com. .berlin has become a trailblazer, setting a trend which has since been followed by other large cities such as New York and Paris. The annual eco Internet Award is given to companies, with a product or a project, which makes an important contribution to the German Internet industry. Last year's winner was openBC.
Berlin, 09.03.2007 - dotBERLIN, the initiative for a new Top Level Domain .berlin, welcomes the resolution "Advancement of the adress space in the Internet" (printed paper no. 16/4564; courtesy translation) which the factions of Social Democrats (SPD) and the Christian Democrats (CDU/CSU) in the German Parliament submitted to the plenary this week. In it, the federal government is called upon to support new developments in the Internet name space. In particular the introduction of new Top Level Domains, especially for urban and regional communities such as "bayern", "nrw" or "berlin", are being endorsed, said Jörg Tauss, who is spokesman for media policy of the SPD faction, this Tuesday in Berlin.
