Ab heute können sich Städte, Unternehmen und Organisationen weltweit um eine eigene Top-Level-Domain, ein eigenes Grundstück im Internet, bewerben. Mit der Bewerbung sind Antworten auf 50 technische, organisatorische, rechtliche und konzeptionelle Fragen zur geplanten Top-Level-Domain zu beantworten, ebenso technische und Finanz-Pläne einzureichen. Bis zum 12. April nimmt die dafür zuständige Behörde ICANN Bewerbungen entgegen, und prüft diese im Anschluss umfangreich. Zugelassene Top-Level-Domains werden ab Januar 2013 online gehen.

Am 2. August fand die jährliche Gesellschafterversammlung der dotBERLIN GmbH & Co. KG in den Räumlichkeiten der BFB BestMedia4Berlin statt. Neben einem Rückblick auf die Erfolge des vergangenen Jahres stand das bevorstehende Bewerbungsfenster von Januar bis April 2012 für neue Top-Level-Domains im Mittelpunkt der Versammlung.

Unserem Gründer und Geschäftsführer Dirk Krischenowski wurde vom Verband der deutschen Internetwirtschaft eco e.V. gestern Abend der eco Internet Award Sonderpreis verliehen. Im Rahmen der eco Gala erhielt er den Sonderpreis für sein "unermüdliches und professionelles Engagement für die neuen Top-Level-Domains". Er hat mit seinen Ideen und Konzepten für geografische Top-Level-Domains wesentlich an der Entwicklung des jetzt vorliegenden Bewerberhandbuchs bei ICANN mitgewirkt und war im Jahr 2005 der erste, der sich bei ICANN für die Einführung derartiger neuer Adressendungen eingesetzt hat. Wir freuen uns über die Auszeichnung!

Die Internet-Verwaltungsorganisation ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) hat bei ihrem Treffen in Singapur heute das Bewerberhandbuch in der Fassung vom 30. Mai 2011 verabschiedet. Damit geht nun ein von dotBERLIN mit initiierter Prozess zu Ende, den wir in zahlreichen Arbeitsgruppensitzungen und ICANN-Meetings über die Jahre kontinuierlich unterstützt und begleitet haben. Nach sechsjährigen Beratungen bei ICANN steht damit eine fundamentale Erweiterung des Domain-Namen-Systems (DNS) um neue Top-Level-Domains nicht nur für geografische Orte sondern auch Marken und beschreibende Begriffe bevor.

Ab dem 12. Januar 2012 wird sich dotBERLIN dann für den Betrieb der Top-Level-Domain .berlin bewerben, Registrierungen für .berlin-Domains starten ca. ab Anfang des Jahres 2013.

Zu Beginn des 41. ICANN-Meetings in Singapur luden erneut die DENIC und dotBERLIN zum deutschen Abend ein. Knapp 40 Gäste folgten der Einladung und tauschten sich mit Blick über das abendliche Singapur aus. Im Fokus der Gespräche zwischen Regierungsvertretern, Registries, Registraren und weiteren Konferenzteilnehmern stand natürlich die bevor stehende Sondersitzung des ICANN-Vorstandes zur Freigabe des Bewerbungsprozesses für die neuen Top-Level-Domains.

IP Supervisor (m/f)

You are able to map and trace any domain name in milliseconds with its corresponding IPv6 address by your photographic memory and intuitive allocation knowledge; even under exceptional circumstances and at shifting time zones? You track the traffic on the Internet since your time at Kindergarten? If yes, your main tasks at dotBERLIN are tracking all .berlin domain requests, the defense of the hierarchy, nomenclature and coherence of any kind of IP addresses for the security of our company. You will be also the key master of our domain safe, experience in managing domain tools is essential. The supervision of the 1,5-charcters rule and its exceptions is also part of your tasks. Previous job experience at IANA, Ripe, TCP/IP or the ftp-http consortium is appreciated, but not mandatory.

Yes, then you are right with us, since you will be responsible for advising our CEO on operational excellence, strategic foresight on the future of the interplanetary internet, and the individual performance during .berlin speaker slots worldwide. This encompasses many responsibilities including scanning of the latest presentation technologies, following twitter every second (86400x7x365) on latest internet technologies, developing organisational flow charts and reporting schemes, and the overall well-being of our CEO. Previous job experience with Deutsche Telekom, BT (British Telecom) and Telekom Italia is appreciated, but not mandatory.

Extensive travel for dotBERLIN will bring you to some of the most beautiful places on earth but also to unbelievable airport nightmares. ICANN hat auf seinem gerade zu Ende gegangenen 40. Meeting endlich wieder einen Zeitplan veröffentlicht. Er sieht vor, dass nach abschliessenden Beratungen und Stellungnahmen der Regierungsvertreter eine prä-finale Version der Bewerbungsrichtlinien am 15. April erscheinen. Nach einer letztmaligen 4-wöchigen Kommentierungsphase sollen dann letzte Änderungen berücksichtigt und die finale Version am 30. Mai 2011 veröffentlicht werden. Somit könnte das nächste ICANN-Meeting in Singapur den Startschuss für die 4-monatige offizielle Kommunikationskampagne vor dem gTLD-Bewerbungsfenster im Oktober 2011 bilden.

Als Auftakt zum 40. ICANN-Meeting in San Fracisco luden am vergangenen Sonntag erneut DENIC und dotBERLIN zum traditionellen "Deutschen Abend" ein. Über 50 deutschsprachige Gäste, darunter ICANN-Direktorin Erika Mann, der ehemalige ICANN-Direktor Hagen Hultzsch, Regierungsvertreter, Vertreter von Registries, Registraren und Internetnutzern sowie von Initiativen für neue gTLDs folgten der Einladung. Im Fokus der Gespräche standen die aktuellen Themen der ICANN-Konferenz, u.a. die Einführung neuer Top-Level-Domains.

Das Thema Top-Level-Domains wurde auch in diesem Jahr auf der IT-Messe CeBIT in Hannover vorgestellt. Am vergangenen Freitag nahm dotBERLIN-Geschäftsführer Dirk Krischenowski an einer Diskussion zum Thema "Die neuen Top-Level-Domains kommen" teil, die unter regem Interesse der Messebesucher auf dem Berliner Gemeinschaftsstand in Halle 2 stattfand. Diskutiert wurde u.a. über die Vergabestelle ICANN, das Bewerbungsverfahren für .berlin und die Chancen, die mit einer Top-Level-Domain für das Stadtmarketing verbunden sind. Moderiert wurde die Diskussion von Herrn Stache, Geschäftsführer des Berliner Providers BB-ONE.net.
